Craps is a game that offers some great odds but also some pretty bad ones if you don’t know what type of bets you’re placing. Everything comes down to the dice.
Craps is known to be the most thrilling games you’ll find on the casino floor, usually the only table surrounded by shouting gamblers.
Online craps will probably not provide you with the same kind of social experience you’d get at a land-based PA casino. However, it’s still a lot of fun and even easier to learn to play online!
We’re here to provide some key strategy, tips and tricks, and some basic rules to turn even the newest of gamblers into a great craps player.
Right now, online craps is not available to play in Pennsylvania. That’s not to say it will never appear!
We’ve listed our top online casinos in the state below. You’ll find great bonuses and big game libraries at each.
Online craps is a virtual dice game where players wager on different rolls. There are a variety of bets you can place, and the house edge is a low 0.6%. It’s much more popular at land-based casinos compared to playing online.
Live dealer crap games and virtual craps have similarities and differences. When you play live dealer craps, it’s almost the same experience as being on the casino floor.
Since craps is such a social game, it’s very hard to get that same experience online. This is why you won’t find many craps games that utilize a live dealer online.
Virtual craps is also rare but, unlike live dealer, uses a Random Number Generator (RNG) to keep things fair. Everything is random and can not be tampered with.
This guarantees each player has the same chance as the other in winning.
When you play craps online, you’ll be placing your wagers on a virtual craps table. You’ll have different chips and use the mouse to indicate what you want to bet.
There are controls for you to Roll and Clear next to the amount you're betting.
The game begins with the Come Out roll thrown by the ‘shooter’ AKA the first player in the round. Since we’re playing at an online casino, all you will have to do is click the ‘roll’ button to get it started.
Once the dice have been rolled, there are three outcomes we could see happen:
While playing online you will see the ‘Point’ displayed as a white button.
What we just described above are known as the Pass Line bets, which are made before the come-out roll and payout 1 to 1. Don’t Pass Line bets have you winning on a 2 or 3, and losing on a 7 and 11.
Players have a number of options when it comes to what bet they want to place in a game of craps. Here are a few of the most common:
This type of bet is almost the same as the Pass Line bet - If the shooter rolls a 7 or 11 then the Come Bet is won but if a 2, 3, or 12 is rolled, it’s a loss. If the first number rolled is a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10, then you will need the same number rolled again before a 7 is in order to win. The Come Bet pays out even money.
This is basically the opposite of a Come Bet, as you win by hitting 2 or 3 and lose on a 7 or 11. If the shooter throws something else (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10) then you want to see a 7 before that number is rolled to win. The player loses the bet otherwise.
This is a side bet that can only be placed once a point has been established (after the Come Out roll) and has no house edge. Odds bets work the exact same as the bets mentioned above but give players the chance to increase their wager on the Pass/Come or Don’t Pass/Don’t Come bet placed.
Finally, a bet for a number that isn’t 7! Players can wager on 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10 after the Come Out roll in hopes that the number they have wagered on is rolled before a 7. If not, you lose.
This is a bet where the player is wagering on a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, or 12 and only works for one roll. Unfortunately, if a 5, 6, 7, or 8 is rolled, you lose the bet.
The bet is in the name; wagering on a 6 or 8 being rolled before a 7 shows up.
There are also a few bets that can be made on any roll throughout a game of craps:
It’s no secret that craps seem to be the most intimidating casino game you’ll find online. This is due to the number of potential bets that can be placed in one given game.
However, if you can understand a few of the basic bets, it’s really not as bad as it looks.
Craps come with a low house edge and some great odds. While it is a game of luck, we have a few tips we believe can make your craps experience more enjoyable.
There isn’t a betting system you can use in online craps that will guarantee you a win. This is mainly because of the dice being random every throw. In the long run, the online casino will have better odds, and believing otherwise could affect your bankroll.
Understand that nothing is guaranteed in a game of craps, so avoid getting into high stake situations if the odds aren’t in your favor.
Like all casino games, it’s important to understand that eventually, you are going to lose. What’s even more important is knowing when to stop, and not to chase those losses.
By keeping your wager money separate from what you manage to win, you have no risk of losing your winnings and can hopefully walk away from a game with some money.
If you’re new to the game of craps and want to play on the safe side, use the Pass Line and Come Line bets to your advantage. They are easiest to learn, offer a few outcomes, and pay even money if the points are hit as wagered.
When casinos start to launch online craps games, you’ll have a number of reasons to stay home and play!
You can claim different bonuses after completing the registration process for an online casino. Use the bonuses to try different games, risk-free! Land-based venues have no bonuses, which means every game you play is coming out of your own pocket.
No more long drives to get to the closest brick and mortar, just to wait hours before a table is available to play at! Online casinos are convenient because you can play at any time and any place, as long as you’re within the state.
Signing up for an online casino gives you the chance to become a member of pristine loyalty programs. Most of these programs reward you for how much you wager and play games at the casino online.
Collect enough points and you’ll be eligible for a lot of big rewards, including perks at the land-based locations!
